Bishop Francis T. Hurley met with the priests of the diocese at the Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau during his first year as newly ordained bishop of the Diocese of Juneau. A major topic of discussion was how to raise money needed to  support several of the diocesan programs he had already put into place, namely the diocesan newspaper (The Inside Passage) and Catholic Community Service. Also travel to the missions needed funding and the parishes needed help in raising money for parish needs. 

It was suggested that a fundraising company be contacted, which Bishop Hurley did, and the fundraising campaign was a great success. However, because these companies take a huge chunk of the profits, it was decided a year later that the diocese would do the work themselves.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $100,000 during the months of early Oct. through mid-Dec. The strategy for holding the campaign this time of year is to coincide with the distribution of the Permanent Fund Dividend checks.
